The 35th Annual Memorial Day Mass of Remembrance and Healing was held Monday, May 27, 2024, at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Barrett Station, TX. Celebrants included the pastor, Fr. Evaristus Chukwu, MSP, and the homilist, Fr. Kingsley Ogbuji, SSJ. Other clergy included Deacons Steve Arceneaux (ret.), Martin Lemond, and David Gerard Johnson.

On Christmas Eve, 1988, a vision appeared on the Lemond Woodyard Property in Barrett Station, Texas. Thousands of people visited every night to witness this unexplained phenomenon. Newspapers from around the world covered the story along with the local TV news stations. Since that time, the family and the community have held a Memorial Day Mass celebrating deceased members of the community, veterans, first responders and cancer survivors. This year, part of the history of the vision was made available through original photos, articles and television interviews. The Legion of Mary of St. Martin de Porres and guests gathered to pray the Rosary at the Woodyard (the original site of the vision) followed by the Memorial Mass at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church where more than 250 persons attended.

Laura Bass, Mary Ligons, Jennifer Gumbs, Libby Newman, Louise Salandy, Eva Volter and Katie Reed-Roberson have supported this celebration since its inception. For the past twenty years, the Sisters In the Spirit of Houston have supported this effort. Join us next year on Monday, May 26, 2025.
